The Carter High School Girls volleyball team for the 2026/2027 school year. Tess Watson, a Junior on the volleyball team stated,”It was a good season and she loves getting to play with her friend and build new friendships”. There is a big opportunity for every player to not only grow in their sport but to grow friendships and bonds with each other through their sport.

The volleyball program at CHS has been around for 19 years.The volleyball team only lost 4 district games this season and even won one set against Central, which the whole season they only had one other team do that.

A senior on the volleyball team Chloe Rouse said,”The volleyball season had some ups and downs, but it isn’t about winning and losing, it’s about playing with the girls I love the most!” A lot of the girls had to play a different position this season and they had to do a lot of adjusting to the way that they play.

Mr.Doty thinks that High school students learn many subjects, but some graduate without knowing the basic life skills that they need as an adult. Skills like managing money, cooking and understanding bills can help students become more independent. Teaching these skills in school could be better to prepare students for life after their graduation.

Angelita is a senior in Carter high school and she believes that schools should teach a life skill that’s time managing. Schools should teach students how to organize their assignments on time and balance school work and personal activities. Time can help students stay organized on the board by feeling overwhelmed. These skills can prepare students by helping them become more responsible in using certain time wisely.

They also explained that learning these skills can help people solve problems on their own. For example, knowing how to do basic and  home maintenance could help students handle common problems when they become adults. These skills could also build confidence and help students discover new hobbies for their future careers.

And for students to learn how to organize their schedule and how to plan their days and organize them and also have time to finish other things is important because they do have a lot of responsibilities, especially in high school, and it’s gonna be good for them to be able to keep up with all their work and other things as well.

Overall, teaching life skills in high school could help students feel more prepared for adulthood whether students learn how to fix things around the house or manage their money. These lessons should make them more responsible and independent schools should consider offering more life skills.Classes of students can feel confident. After school she has to make time for her practices and her jobs, when she gets home she works on homework. She says “I wake up and get ready for school then go to school and after school I have to get ready to go to practice or to work so I have time for both. When I get home I try to finish my homework and go to sleep”. Her basketball coach, Coach Trey sees how Arieonna manages her responsibilities. He describes her as dedicated and determined to keep up with the busy schedule she has. “Arieonna balances everything by staying dedicated, playing two sports, working two jobs, and keeping up with school shows she has to keep up with a lot of responsibilities. It takes determination to keep up with a busy schedule”. Arieonna’s schedule shows how much dedication it takes to balance school, sports, and work.

Students do not attend school events for a wide range of logistical, emotional, and social reasons. For many students, missing an event is not a matter of choice but a restriction of their circumstances. The school environment itself can drive students away from attending these events.

Work and family duties play a major role. Many high school students juggle part-time jobs or must go straight home to take care of younger siblings. Events held after hours or over weekends often lack school-provided buses, leaving students without a reliable ride.

Annsley Herrington explains how students feel that the themes or activities offered by schools are uninteresting, outdated, or just not related to their actual hobbies. Often, schools rely heavily on mass emails or morning announcements that students completely tune out which leaves them unaware of what is happening or why they should care.

Ntwari Shema explains how the cost of tickets, proper attire (for events like prom), equipment, or concessions can easily price lower-income students out of participating. He explains how the school can take steps to encourage more students to participate. Offering more affordable activities, improving transportation options, and asking students what events they would enjoy could make a difference. Ntwari states, “The problem is kids think they are too cool for school”

Carter High School’s winter formal is also coming up, giving students another opportunity to get dressed up, spend time with their friends and make memories outside the classroom. Last year, the dance was cancelled because not enough students attended. This year, students have another chance to make the event successful by showing their support and participating. The upcoming formal has the potential to bring students together and create a fun experience for everyone who attends

Although school events are meant to bring students together, several barriers can prevent students from participating. Understanding these challenges can help schools find ways to make activities more accessible, interesting, and welcoming to everyone.

Fall break at Carter High School was from October 5th to October 9th. Here are some things people did. I talked to 2 students and asked what they did on their fall break. Callie Palmer, a senior, said “I didn’t do too much on fall break but I did get to hang around my boyfriend.” Callie got to go eat and go on dates with her boyfriend over the fall break. Callie also stated “ It just felt really good to be out of school and get to sleep in. I also didn’t have to worry about stressing over work.” Zyra Cassidy, also a senior, went to Myrtle Beach. She said “ I had lots and lots of fun and got a nice tan. It was so relaxing and I hadn’t been to the beach in a long time” Zyra got to go with her mom and they had a great time. She even got some seashells and some beach jewelry. Between these two girls at Carter High School, you can see that they had a very different break but still enjoyed their time. They both said they wished it was longer.

Imagine this: it’s the middle of class and you just got done with your work and you want to have some fun on your chromebook. However Linewize has to hit you with the 1984 Big Brother is watching and block everything. But then, the GOAT Kaden Mourer comes in and shows you how to get around it.

Many people know about Linewize, the application that CHS uses to block students from certain websites, whether they think it’s good or bad. One of those people is Kaden Mourer and he thinks “It’s idiotic, it really doesn’t help”. He gets around Linewize for multiple things such as: watching Star Wars, Naruto, playing Ultrakill, Minecraft, Bad Piggies, Deltarune along with other things. Many people think what Kaden is doing is right. For example when someone like Asher Lynch, a sophmore, was asked “Do you believe that what Kaden is doing is just?” He had this to say: “yeah”, this evidence shows that people want him to keep doing what he is doing.

Many people actually hate Linewize, for example when we asked Asher Lynch if he hated Linwize he said “Yes, very much.” This shows that many people disapprove of Linewize and want it gone. And thus people enjoy what Kaden is doing.

As the first semester of school reaches its midpoint, seniors have begun to consider their plans for after graduation. Carter would like its graduating class to be enrolled, enlisted, or employed after departing school, and post-secondary education appears to be a more common outcome within those choices. Higher education brings a slew of its own challenges – financial aid, scholarships, admission decisions – that college-bound seniors must navigate.

Abigail Lawson, an early graduate who leaves in December, finds herself handling these obstacles before her peers: “I do not feel fully prepared to start college, but it was my decision to graduate early.” Abigail plans to enroll in Pellissippi next fall while using the months before to prepare herself for higher education. “I plan to get a job after graduation because I do not know how much financial aid I will receive,” she explained. While she does feel pressured, Abigail knows, overall, that college is the course she needs to take, a sentiment mirrored in her peer, Ally Randolph.

Although she graduates in May, Ally has already outlined her college plans. “College applications have not stressed me out because I use Common App, though I have faced trouble with scholarships,” she said. Common App is a website that features a conglomerate of colleges, allowing students to easily submit applications; while it can match students to scholarships, the ones Ally have reviewed have lofty requirements. Despite this setback, she has formulated an alternative plan if she does not receive adequate financial aid: attend a community college, then transfer to a university to avoid accumulating debt.

Rainbow Six Siege is a shooting game produced by Ubisoft. The game has two opposing teams, attackers and defenders. They both have to accomplish their objectives. The attackers have to either place a defuser on the bomb, rescue the hostage or seize an area. Defenders try to prevent attackers from completing their objective and protect it until the end of the round. Rainbow Six Siege has different types of characters that are called operators. Operators have special abilities and gadgets that allow them to perform their job better. Different kinds of defenders You can choose different defenders in Rainbow Six Siege. Jager can destroy grenades in advance, Rook can give armor to his team, Kapkan is able to install traps on doors, and Smoke uses smoke to block enemies from getting to a certain area. In addition, there are many attackers in the game such as Ash, Thermite, Sledge, and IQ. Ash uses her breaching rounds to destroy walls and other objects, Thermite breaks reinforced walls, Sledge has a big hammer to destroy walls and IQ finds electronic gadgets. What makes Rainbow Six Siege unique One of the main features of this shooting game is that the player is able to destroy different objects on the map. In particular, it is possible to destroy walls, floors, windows and doors in order to get different access ways into the building. This aspect adds complexity to the game because players do not know where the enemy can appear. It is necessary to pay attention to every sound of the opponent in order to be prepared for everything. The game is very complicated at the beginning of the game because it is necessary to memorize maps, operators, gadgets and different strategies. Sometimes it is possible to die quite fast in the game which can be rather annoying, but winning a round against opponents is really pleasant. Overall, Rainbow Six Siege is a great shooting game if you like teamwork and this kind of game. It can be rather difficult sometimes, but there is always something to learn.

Have you ever wondered what’s really in our school lunch? It’s important to know what students are being fed everyday, and what ingredients play a part in the food we eat on a day to day basis. In the Carter high cafeteria most of our meats if not all are Battered Poultry meat, while yes it can have good effects it also comes with its downsides. Battered Poultry Meat contains 300 to 700 mg of sodium which can cause elevated blood pressure and increase the risk of heart disease when eaten regularly. The thick batter is usually made from white flour and pre-fried in hydrogenated oil before being frozen, this can cause bad cholesterol as well as weight gain. While Knox county cafeterias are under strict regulations and have to follow the USDA National School Lunch program to meet nutritional requirements, the meat being mixed with water, binders, and starches, decrease the nutritional value keeping them from meeting nutritional requirements. Frequent consumption over many years causes a higher risk of developing juvenile type 2 diabetes, and colorectal cancer. Some may argue that the cafeteria uses real whole meat, and they do. However all the extra ingredients added to preserve the shelf life of the meat takes away from the nutritional value students are supposed to be getting daily. All in all I think students should be more concerned about what ingredients are in the lunch we have eaten for years, and what potential risk they could pose to our health in the long run. 

That’s Just Me by Riley Green was released on September 14, 2026. The album is mostly country heartbreak but does have little about his past memories, a little about him and some honky-tonk. Some of his songs talk about how he misses a girl that dont miss him and he thinks they should try again. He also wrote a song when he first got his pair of boots and what his dad said about them as he grew up, that was called “Ten Pairs Of Boots”. Riley’s song “Think as you drunk” is the most played song out of this album on the radio. Its scene and lyrics are about him being at a bar.  The bar and falling in love is Riley Green’s whole personality. The whole album went number 3 on the billboard 200 just a few weeks after its release. He has a few songs he combined with other singers such as, Hannah McFarland, Randy Owen, Brooks & Dunn, and Jake Worthington. He wrote a total of 19 songs in this album. A few were, “My Way”, “O’l Stray Dog”, “Ten Pairs Of Boots”, and more. Riley Green gets over 16.6 million views every month. He was born in Jacksonville, Alabama. He has many nominations for things such as CMA male artist of the year in 2025 because of his massive streaming success, chart ratings, and strong traditional country. Riley’s album had positive ratings.Viewers of his songs say it was better than his last album which was called “Don’t Mind If I Do.” They said his songs sounded much better and his lyrics choices have increased positively. They claimed that his growth really spiked this year. This might be their favorite one yet. They claimed his handsomeness is why most people enjoy him and why they go to his concerts. But a negative thing some viewers have said about his albums is that they are sometimes repeating the same stuff just with different words and different song titles. In my opinion I think his album was great. Some songs are relatable to me and others I just enjoy listening to while studying or working. If you’re someone who loves honky tonk, heartbreak, past, and falling in love kinda country music then you should enjoy Riley Green’s new album.
