Opinion: Pep Rallies in the Gym Are the Way To Go

School spirit is something that is important for the student body to stay involved in school and promote pride in their roots. When people are all excited and cheering for the same reason, they are more likely to be unified and have a commonality to all get along. Pep rallies are a great way to get the student body involved and to spread school spirit. The pep rallies at Carter High have been different from previous years, obviously following the protocols from the pandemic. They were cancelled all together last year, and have been in the morning before school this year, but there is talk about bringing them back during enrichment. The original pep rallies in the gym are by far the best and most effective for promoting school spirit and need to be brought back. Since getting back to somewhat normal, being brought together into one area physically would be refreshing to have a sense of familiarity. It just feels wrong to not be cramped up together in the gym during  a pep rally. Not only does it bring the student body physically closer, but it also raises excitement. The loud cheering hypes up both the players and the fans. This energy is important for game day and school spirit in general. Pep rallies are also a great reason to get out of class and do something emotionally productive compared to the academically grueling week everyone had. It is a great way to get excited for the weekend. Some might not like pep rallies because it can get stuffy, loud, and crowded, or they simply do not want to be there; however, the argument can be made that a lot of students do not want to be at school in general, yet they still show up. Pep rallies are supposed to be a fun break from the average school day, and they are an opportunity to let out some energy. Also, since everyone is required to show up for school, why not just accept that pep rallies are a part of school. Overall, pep rallies are intended to be fun and to promote school spirit, so why not let them do just that?
