Opinion: New Ice Cream Machine, it’s Tasty, but is it Reliable?

Picture this: summer has just ended; you’re in school, the heat of the August day still lingers in through the hallways. Now think: would this not be the perfect time for a nice cold treat? Well the brand new ice-cream machine at Carter High is perfect for solving the summer heat. People around the school have been very interested in this new addition. Many mention their excitement to try it, and others express intrigue about when this machine will get up and running (with most not knowing if it is working or not). I think the new ice cream machine is a fun, cool addition to the school; however, I can only imagine that the machine must require a lot of maintenance, and so I hope that it can remain available and reliable for the near future. I for one think this machine is a positive for the school because, lets face it, almost everybody likes ice cream; even some lactose-intolerant people still make some room for ice cream! And so in providing this for students, the school has also provided what I can only imagine will be a very popular, and very successful source of extra income. On the other hand however, my concerns about the upkeep of the machine are mainly rooted in the fact that almost all that I have asked have either been unsure if the machine was working, or stated that it wasn’t. And while this is understandable as it is only the beginning of its life here at Carter High, I understand that soft serve most likely provides a completely unique challenge from the normal vending machines. And while I may just lack understanding of the machine, I can only imagine that keeping the ice cream itself from going bad, as well as basic cleaning and maintenance will be a challenge. Moving back to the possibilities of the machine, it is quite obvious that students enjoy feeling independent with their purchases (ex. Chick-Fil-A Fridays, Krispy Kreme Wednesdays) so having this ice cream machine is just another way the school can indulge in that, while also making money in the meantime. And while some may feel further worry about the reliability of the machine, saying that if it doesn’t work it may just be taking up space, I believe that even just an occasional opportunity to purchase it would suffice, as we only have limited times for Chick-Fil-A biscuits and Krispy Kreme as well. Now, this ice cream machine has only just arrived, many things are still unsure about it’s upkeep, it’s success, and even it’s popularity, but I for one think it is a welcome addition to the school.
