Review: Carter High School Food

Photo of a lunch served here at Carter High School.

The school food here at Carter High School has its likes and dislikes, but why is the food disliked so much? One reason could be that the fried foods are too oily, or the bread is stale. The biggest reason for me, is that it’s not very braces-friendly, I have braces, and the food options at Carter tend to always get stuck in my braces and pose a risk of breaking a bracket or bending a wire, but my main dislike is the how long it takes me to get all of that food out of my braces. Having food stuck in your braces can cause problems, like irritation or soreness in the area, which I have had happen to me many times due to eating breakfast or lunch at Carter. So many students have braces, so I feel like making school food a bit more brace-friendly would be nice for us students with braces.

The main concern for me is bready foods and stale foods. Bready foods get stuck in braces very easily and it is hard to get out depending on how thick or airy the bread is, and stale foods pose a risk of bending a wire or breaking a bracket. Breaking a bracket or bending a wire can lengthen the time you have braces which I don’t think anyone with braces wants a longer treatment, and this also might introduce more payment on the braces treatment depending on how many times it happens. In conclusion, school food isn’t all bad, it’s actually pretty good, but I recommend being cautious while eating it if you have braces because of the food getting stuck and also because of the possibility of breaking or bending a wire. From a person with braces, I would rate the food here at Carter, a 6/10, the food is still good, but it’s just risky for me to eat.
