Opinion: The Devious Licks Trend is childish/foolish and should stop

Do you think the bathrooms will ever be unlocked with the devious licks trend going on? Maybe not if the Devious Licks trend continues. Devious licks trend is a trend where students vandalize, destroy, or steal property from the school, other students, or even staff members. This trend started on the social media app, TikTok, and is very destructive, the destruction mainly occurs in the bathrooms here at Carter High School, hence the bathrooms being locked.

This has become a very popular trend but is also a very annoying one to the teachers, staff members, and students who do not participate in the trend. Here at Carter, students participating in this trend have caused almost all of the bathrooms to be locked, and they are still causing more damage to the remaining bathrooms. The teachers and staff are very tired of the shenanigans, and they think it is ridiculous that destroying property that belongs to the school (and not the students) is entertaining to certain students and the people on Tik Tok encouraging it.

This trend should come to a stop for many reasons, but mainly because it is childish and foolish, it does not follow student code, and it is costing lots of money for many schools.

The trend is childish and foolish because little children break stuff for entertainment, not people who are almost adults. It is foolish to contribute to something that is destroying property that isn’t yours because if you’re caught then you could get into some serious trouble, and what is meant by serious trouble; could possibly be a charge for vandalism or destruction of property put on your record, which could most likely cost your future.

My second reason is that this trend does not follow school guidelines and student code. The students should respect school property because it does not belong to them but is provided for them by the school, and the taxes that their parents pay.

My third reason is that this trend is costing many schools all-around lots of money, money that could be used for many other things around the schools, like snacks for the students and vending machines.

Someone participating in this trend might say it is fun/funny and entertaining, but in response to that, this trend is not funny or enjoyable for many staff members and principals, and this trend could result in serious consequences.

In conclusion, I think this trend is very ridiculous and childish, and should come to an end before it costs the school too much money and causes the bathrooms to be locked for good.

Upstairs boys bathroom door has to stay open and monitored because of the Devious Licks Trend.
