Have you ever sat in a science class and thought, “this is absolutely pointless”? This is why I think all science classes should not be mandatory after middle school. If you aren’t going into a field where you are required to take science classes, then you shouldn’t be forced to take a long, boring class that’s going to be no help to your future. Math classes are required because you need to be able to add up totals later in life and do your taxes. English classes are required because you need to learn how to read and write and learn the proper ways to speak in job interviews. Social studies/history classes are required because you need to know the history of our country and the world to not repeat the mistakes of others. What are science classes supposed to be for? If you’re in high school, you need to start having ideas on what you want to be later in life. Science classes don’t help if you’re not going into the field of being a scientist or engineer. Someone might say that science classes should be mandatory because you want to know how the body works and how your body works. But the keyword is want. If you don’t want to take the class and it won’t help you in the future, you shouldn’t be forced to sit in a class for an hour and a half or more when the class has no significant effect on your future. Adding to that, if you want to know how the body works, there are health classes that are optional in the school. All in all, science classes should be optional to everyone because they are no help to people who don’t use the criteria in the future.
